Warm lighting without sacrificing functionality

Criteria for balancing atmosphere, functionality, and maintenance in home environments.

Residential lighting defines how a home is perceived at dusk. Warm lighting creates a welcoming atmosphere, but it must also accommodate the practical needs of everyday activities.

Layers of Residential Lighting

Thinking about residential lighting in layers—ambient, task, and accent—helps avoid the common mistake of relying solely on a single ceiling fixture. Each layer serves a different purpose within the space.

Color Temperature and Comfort

  • Living areas: warm lighting (2700K) for relaxation.

  • Kitchen and office: neutral lighting on work surfaces.

  • Circulations: subtle points that guide without overshadowing.

Maintenance and Durability

Good residential lighting also takes into account bulb replacement, access to light fixtures, and energy consumption. Beauty that isn't maintained ceases to be a source of comfort and becomes a problem.

Here's how we apply this in the residential projects from the studio.
